M95 Prussian EM Pickelhauben

Time for a U.S attic find. This one is huge, maybe a size 60? All parts are original to this helmet, with excellent overall patina. The ghosting behind the wappen, and other parts is untouched. I have one request, and one question please.

1. My request would be your help in deciphering the markings stamped in the rear neck guard/visor.

2. My question has to do with the missing orb. There's no question it was removed long ago judging by the patina and lack of ghosting. Although rarely, I have encountered this before, as well as the head of the eagle being removed. What is the significance (if any) of this?

The helmet is marked to T.B.8 (Train Bataillon 8), 1.E. (1.Eskadron), B.A. (Bekleidungsamt). The last marking is a bit unusual as the B.A. mark is normally accompanied by a Roman numeral corps number. Perhaps they thought it was not necessary since the helmet was also marked to the 8th Train and the Train battalions were numbered by the corps they were attached to. Thus, the T.B.8 would have been in the VIII Armee Korps. The Train (supply train) was broken down into squadrons similar to the cavalry, perhaps because they were mounted troops.

Attached below is an example of the eagles head and orb being removed from the wappen on a M15 EM Shako. All eagles head or orb removals I've encountered over the last 50 years have been on a M95 front plate.

The felt haube and the shako look really great too!

As a side note: I have a Model 1895 helmet with soldier ID that I have service record info on, Regimental issue marked to 95th Saxe-Coburg-Gotha that is missing the head on the rare "Fuerst" eagle, as well as missing the star burst plate and special S-C-G wappen for the star from the eagle's chest area. The orb is damaged as well on the front plate.

There is currently a listing in the Imperial section of the Estand called "Two Prussian Picklehaub Front Plates" (or similar) where one is missing the orb.
