How are the pads attached to the liner band on M17 liner assemblies?

The liner pads are crimped to the M17 steel liner band.

Chuck, here is why I asked. Just came across these and wanted to confirm my novice opinions.

The first one just has a nice dark green overpaint.

Nice find Willi. It's not easy to find original M16/17 chinstraps on the loose nowadays. Congrats.
