    Headgear and unit ID help

    I have had the drinking glass for several years and would like to ID the unit of the picklehaub on the lid. Engraved around the lid is "Max Kunzmann. B.J.B. 3. The J could be an I but that does not make sense. So I would assume Bayern Jager Battalion 3. What do others think?

    Can you show us the wappen on the Tschako?

    If it is Bayerische Jaeger there are some discrepancies:

    1. Bavarian units had the number placed in front of their unit designation, so 3 J.B. not J.B. 3;
    2. The Tschako of Bavarian Jaeger did not come with a plume;
    3. The Tschako was introduced to the Bavarian Jaeger in 1895 and 3 J.B. was redesignated to 2 J.B. already in 1890;
    4. There seems to be a chinstrap on the Tschako, this was only introduced in 1914.

    So if it is Bay Jaeger it is probably a commemorative item from 1914 or more likely later with an incorrect privately added engraving. Still not sure why there would be a plume on it. So all in all, not quite happy with the Bavarian Jaeger explanation.

    Based on the plume I would think more along the lines of Prussian Jaeger Battalion 3 which did have a plume and was from Brandenburg. Brandenburg Jaeger Battalion 3 - B.J.B. 3 . If your Tschako has the Prussian Imperial Eagle on it, I am pretty sure it is the Jaeger from Brandenburg and not Bavaria.

      Not really. It is too small with no detail.
