          ersatz bayonet

The former owner was right. The bayonet is a WW1 ersatz that was made in Austria and not Germany. It will fit the Russian M1891 Mosin-Nagant rifle and may also fit the earlier Russian Berdan rifles.

              ersatz bayonet

The bayonets are very rare. They were either manufactured in very limited numbers or very few survived over the years for whatever reason. I collected bayonets for over thirty years and attended probably over 150 gun/militaria shows both as buyer and seller and knew many bayonet collectors and I never saw one. I have a book somewhere in storage that had an article about them otherwise I probably would not even know that they existed. I found an article on the net at mosin-nagant.net entitled "WW1 Bayonet Adaptations of Captured Model 1891 Three Line Rifles" that covers the bayonet but it has no pictures of one. At least it is a place to start your research. Hope this helps out.

                  ersatz bayonet

Glad to be of some help. Sorry, but I do not have a clue what it might be worth and cannot even make an educated guess.
