    Need help

    Hi!

    Can somebody recommend some good books to me that just have starting to collect German WW 1? I'am most interested in things that was use by the trench soldiers. Uniforms, equipment, guns,helmets....

    My collecting is generally limited to steel helmets, if you are planning to include these into your collecting, I'd recommend a copy of Ludwig Baer's "History of the German Steel Helmet 1916-1945". It has a somewhat small but well done section concerning the technical development of the steel helmet from the "Gaeda" through the M1918 (cut-out model included). Also included are encountered accessories (field covers, frontal plates, etc.).

      For 1914-1918 uniforms I would suggest "The German Army in the First World War Uniforms and Equipment - 1914-1918" by Jurgen Kraus. It is published in German and English. The price is about $125. Try finding it at www.militaria.at
