    ammo bandolier, what is it

    A friend picked up a couple of these. Any thoughts on what nation and what era. One guess is Turkish (from the flea market seller). Lightweight linen material, non-ferrous zinc or aluminum buttons. Overall length of just the ammo pouch portion is about 27 inches. Seven compartments, each would hold a 5 round 8mm stripper clip of ammo. Buttons are a little under 5/8 inches in diameter, smaller than a WWII German zeltbahn button.

      Yes, Turkish. Probably from the 1940s based on the headstamps on the cartridges that came in them. You can find them in the color shown and dark blue/gray. I would suppose that many thousands of these (with the ammo)were sold in the US starting in the mid-1990s.
