I was offered this helmet but I am unsure of it. It appears to be an Artillery Officer's One but I have never seen this plate. I looked in my reference materials and this one was not pictured.

Yes, I agree with Chip.
The helmet is a Fireman's helmet. Front plate (wappen) is a city crest (for which I do not know which city it is.)
Helmet has metal trim around the edge of the back visor, which is indicative of a fireman's helmet. Military helmets did not use the metal trim on the edge of the back visor.
The ball top and the cloverleaf base that supports the ball on the top of the helmet is also typical of those used for a fireman's helmet. It is actually shaped/styled differently from what was used on a military helmet.
Best Regards,
Alan

The city crest could be the one of the Bavarian city "Bamberg"
For comparison an old seal from Bamberg with the knight, lance with flag, long sword, shield with eagle and the 5 towers above (http://www.ngw.nl/heraldrywiki/index.php?title=Bamberg).Attached Files
