    Küpperia Mütze, 100 gramm

Another hat that I've hunting for a long while.

100 gramm hats were specifically constructed for hot weather. As the name suggests, they are as light as a feather plus have sweat repellent linings. If you hold it up the light, you can see through the weave of the fabric. Other details to note are a lack of any side lining plus the laminated sweatband which was ultra high tec at the time. Being a cap nerd, this is all very fascinating for me.

The auction house pictures weren't that great (are they ever!?) so took a gamble. I thought that it was probably really dirty from poor storage but in fact it's period sweat and grime from being worn.

I can't express how difficult it is to find WWI German hats that show clear evidence of being worn, possibly at the front, that are still around these days and haven't completely fallen apart.

The hat also came with an EK.II (original? I know very little about them) and 2 x silver? inscribed items plus ribbons. From what I understand of the inscriptions, they are in remembrance of his fallen friends? maybe commissioned post war and worn during veterans meetings and marches?

Damn, Ben, you are on a roll--a Kupperia! Congrats again on your most refined taste in visors--(beats those black and white hats any day of the week!)
