    Trying to I.D. Sword

    Hello all,

Just got this, plus an M1852 US Navy sword, from a buddy of mine who is more into guns than edged weapons. He received them with an estate grouping of 19th century pistols about 10 years ago & has had them in his garage ever since.

I'm much more knowledge about the TR stuff, so I'm trying to get any idea about what exactly it is, period, unit, maker, etc., and a ball park value.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Here's what I do know:

It has an etched blade that is pretty faded, looks to be fancy scroll type work, no unit markings, name or inscriptions I can make out, but it does look to have maybe a cannon & wheel...

No makers mark I can see any where...

The tip protector on the scabbard has an "8" on one side & "28" on the other...

That's pretty much it. I'm going to try & get a better look at the etching with a jewelers loop & see if I can make anything out

Looks like a German NCO sword , the etching is more WW1 than WW2 , unless it says something groovy on the blade it isnt worth a lot $150 $200. Rob
God please take justin bieber and gave us dio back

            Hello Rob,

Yeah, that's pretty much what I figured as far as period & value, thanks for confirming for me.

My only decision now is to sell it or keep it, I sold almost all of my Edged weapons about 10 years ago when the economy took a hit & don't really have a place for it.

            decisions...decisions...
            Regards,
            Chris

Does anyone have any idea or info on what I assume are unit markings on the scabbard guard?
              Regards,
