    Pickelhaube opinions?

Can anyone give me an opinion on these pickelhaubes? Real or no? I've seen varying opinions about this dealer so I'm not positive. Also I've never seen a size 60 before, and he has two in great shape.

    Thanks!

They both look fine to me, especially the "stone mint" Baden version, but it's price seems exorbitant , even considering the condition.
The spike on the other 'haube looks rather short for an officer's version; just my opinion.

Looks like both have been restored, overly restored.

        +1

To be honest I find both rather unattractive looking. There are much nicer Pickles out there.

I agree. Better quality examples available and overly priced.

            Hello,

No offense to Helmut Weitze, but the 95th Reg't helmet has been for sale for maybe 7 years or more on his web site, if I recall correctly. Spike is a correct officer style which I would guess does not appeal to most collectors, even though it probably is original to the helmet.

The Baden reserve officer has been on the market for a while as well. The gilt fittings are in superb condition. As for the black exterior helmet finish, one has to be a real connoisseur in my humble opinion to like this attic baked finish which has no lacquer on it anymore. The exterior finish has oxidized and baked at high temperatures most likely while sitting for decades in an attic with no climate control in it. Some collectors actually love and desire this type of finish on a helmet. Myself: not.

We all have our own distinct collector tastes, and "that's what makes the world go around" to borrow an old cliché.

            Best Regards,

            Alan

Thanks for the feedback. I was curious about these because I prefer to collect size 60 headgear, which can be a big handicap. Anyway, I'll stay away from these two.
