My first German WW1 officers cap visor- what is it?

    Hi all,

I was excited to find this in a collection brought back with a variety of WW2 items, I believe it is a WW1 German/Austrian field officers cap but am unsure of the variant, and what the color piping denotes. The middle cockade has a black center and red surrounding circle. I can't make out the interior manufacturers logo, although it seems there is enough of the script left for an expert to identify it based on the design.

If anyone could let me know what this is I would greatly appreciate it!

    Cheers

I'm pretty sure this is post-WWI Stahlhelmbund.

Given the nice condition of the rest of the cap, I find it a bit odd that the manufacturer info is obliterated. I can't tell if the wool of the body is feldgrau or graugrün. I'm fairly certain that the Stahlhelm organization used feldgrau wool.

Like bolewts58, my first impression was that it was a Stahlhelm piece. The officer's state cockade is missing its base piece.

        Hallo discostu

I agree with the others. The lack of the lower piping; the style of the chinstrap; the logo imprinted directly on the lining without the protection of sweatshield suggest to me an early-postwar visor. Besides, on the outside I do not see the signs of some earlier badge. So, if the internal front cardboard shows only the holes of the current cockade, we should exclude any other organizations.

        Best regards

          Hi Guys,

Thank you so much for the help! I didn't consider this would be a post-WW1 interwar cap, what would be a good idea of value for this piece? I think it will look good near my WW1 soft cloth German cap
