M16 Camo helmet

I only have this one picture at present, my question is how can you tell if the camo paint job is original or not?? I know alot have been faked, this M16 does not have its original liner, but its paint maybe original? If original what would be a fair price?

I am not overly familiar with camo helmets. I see they go for big bucks on ebay and other places. Many of them do not have the liner, but the camo paint looks to be in really good condition. When I see them like that I question why the paint is in such good condition but the liner is missing.

These are very tricky and are 10X harder to authenticate than it's Third Reich counterpart. Reason being, most were camo'd right after wars end because there was a market for these even then. Making a fake that is 85 years old using period paint with the same technique. Third Reich camo helmets were the opposite, there was no market for camo helmets after WWII for several decades. Originals of the WWII era were random patterns and techiques.
Actual WWI German camo helmets were used at the end of WWI adding more to their rarity.

i afraid i can only agree with others here, you can not decide on just one photo like this one. There just is not the wear you would expect, some of the colours exhibit avery newness look, and the rust on the edge would need a hands on for sure.
If you do a search here you wil find plenty of example to compare to get a better idea of what to expect.

Yeah, I would doubt this one as well. The yellow looks too bright and the blue isn't part of the Ludendorf order of "green, ochre yellow and rust brown".

How about showing a few good images posted here. I know, there are many threads on M16 helmets but it is alway fun to see more. I'll try to find my helmet images. I have lost my cable for my digital camera so I can't download any until I find it. May buy a card reader instead. Opinions on card readers???

Thanks for the comments guys I think I will give this one a miss, It would be nice to have an example of an original though... I do have a few other helmets I'll try and post them tomorrow.

The design was a popular one for "trench art" & many Allied helms were also done in this pattern after the war.

I've got to agree that blue sections say "postwar paint job" to me. There are period painted helmets with variations from the standard black outlined pattern, but they still tend to use the basic colors mentioned in the original orders.

I echo what Charles said. Tom, you cannot post a photo that shows "other" stuff in the back and not expect us to pick up on that?
