    Imperial sword question?????

    Hi Guys,

This spring, I plan to add a Pick and a sword to my display. I see lots of swords on ebay for reasonable prices but I have a simple question.

I would like to know if any of the "lion head" swords are imperial or are they more WW2 ?? I like the looks of these better than the "dove head" swords but I want to stay in the Imperial time frame.
    Thanks,
    Greg

Hey Greg. I have a copy of Lipus & Tischer (1901) "Das kleine Buch vom Deutschen Heer" Kiel. A great little book and inside are two very nice pages showing the hilts of most of the swords, sabers, and Pallasch all together for comparison. Not as detailed as other references, but quite handy. I scanned them so you can save/print them off if you wish. They are reasonably large, about 180,000 KB each. Hopefully they are of some use, the links are below.

Several units used the lion-head, the most common though, are Preußen Artillery and Husaren officers.

I like swords too, but I know squat about them. Tony

      Sword education

To get a free sword education I recommend visiting Thomas Johnson's or Thomas Wittmann's website. Their description and pictures are very "educational", although their prices are very high.
