    M1910 Kratzchen for review

    Hi all,

I have been trying to track down a decent WW1 German cap to add to the collection, any chance of an opinion on this one please. Not sure on the printed markings inside, Rgt.89 seems a little odd?

There are red and black felt pads behind the cockades

The cap seems to be OK on black light except for an internal cotton stitch that is just peaking out at the rear - this glows quite brightly and makes me think the hidden parts may also be a modern cotton.

    Thanks for any comments

While the wool exterior body looks OK, the liner and the way the seams are stitched do not. Wrong heavy ribbed cotton liner, exposed loose stitching, seams poorly joined, all makes it not look like an original liner. Other things are the regimental stamp is bogus(anyway the 89er R. is Mecklenburg, this has Prussian cockade), the maker mark looks like the same ink as the regimental stamp, so that is also suspect.

Please wait for a good one to come along.

I agree with Bob that the lining material is not correct. The stamps are not original either. I posted all of my caps on another website and a cap maker lifted all of the markings and they are showing up on repro caps. On this Carl Bangert stamp you can see the outline of the rubber stamp that was made.

The regimental stamp normally is not present without a B.A. issue stamp with date. Usually, one sees a B.A. stamp alone and if you are lucky, a unit stamp too.

I agree also concerning the cockade and the Mecklenburg unit stamp not matching.
