          Eindecker2:

Enlisted austrian tunics are one of the "hottest" items for WW1 collectors, and subsequently our brothers in eastern europe have almost perfected the fake austrian tunic. I know a very knowlegable collector who just sent a fake one back to europe about a month ago. His statement was the tunic was a perfect match as far as the cut, pattern, stitching AND stampings, but the feldgrau cloth itself was not right. I am not an austrian collector so I really can't say anything except on outward appearance it looks good, but I sure wouldn't bet my money on it. Perhaps someone with a little more knowledge would weigh in on the originality of the tunic. My opinion is beware.....

          Regards

          Dave

I saw a similar one of these on Ebay about 6 months ago, or so. I didn't follow the auction through to see if it sold. Had a high reserve on it. If this isn't that one, then beware, because it means that there are more than one of these "rare" mint examples out there. I'd be suspicious.

I can echo what Dave has said that this pattern Austrian tunic has been expertly faked. There have been some offered by very exclusive European auction houses, in catalogs with beautiful color photos. The only problem is that I have been told by knowledgable collectors that they were fakes. Another collector recently sent me these same photos for my opinion. Everything looked OK, even down to the typical light purple stampings. These are things you would just have to hold in your hand. I would never buy one from overseas. Sending that much money that far away is just asking for trouble.

              Just my opinion,
              Chip
