Hi all,
Recently found this helmet and was wondering if anyone could help. The helmet appears to be an original M16 WW1 German helmet with the interior marking "BF62" present. The paint looks to be black with dark green on the front, and a wartime painted Imperial German Crest with the Iron Cross in the centre and "Gott Mit Uns" below. The left hand side of the painted symbol has worn off but otherwise is intact. What worries me about the helmet is the liner- it looks strange and is unlike the ones I have seen before- also, while the "Frankenstein" bolts are present on both side a rivet appears missing on the back and on one of the sides on the front.
What would be a fair price to pay for this helmet, and is the liner original? Was painting ones helmet with patriotic symbols common during WW1 common?
Any help appreciated, thanks!!!
