I had the same thing happen with a medal bar. Refuse to cancel the auction. At least they will lose the fees to ebay.

I think many of us have had this happen over the years. It's IMO a function of a general decline in ethics and moral values that we see in so many ways anymore. All you can do is shrug it off and move on. Alternatively; You can file a protest with Ebay for whatever good that will do.

Looks like the helmet appeared live on Wednesday, March 9th at 3:00 p.m. Helmet sold a mere ten minutes later at 3:10 p.m. with "buy-it-now".

The seller had a mere $295 starting price with a buy-it-now price of $385 on this Prussian ersatz "kit" helmet. It even had a proper notched Prussian kokarde with it, but no national kokarde or chinstrap.

I would probably have fallen out of my chair trying to hit the "buy-it-now" button on eBay at that bargain basement price.

        Here's the link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/VERY-NICE-WW...p2047675.l2557

        Best Regards,

        Alan

I can't blame you Rob, I'd be ticked off and frustrated also.

As a very light seller on eBay, I've seen all sorts of strange stuff as well, from non-paying bidders, slow payment (over a month time), buyers wanting to ship to different address other than what their eBay/PayPal address is, etc.

A year ago a buyer cleaned 95+ years of patina on a beautiful untouched Prussian Pioneer Officer helmet, and then wanted a refund on the helmet 45-days after he had taken it all apart and removed the dark patina off from all the metal fittings. Fortunately PayPal said NO to him on that one, and would not give him a refund.

Good luck, hopefully it will work out for you!

              Best Regards,

              Alan

Personally, I've never asked for someone I did not know to end an auction early, but there are tons of guys out there that have no compunction about requesting an early sale. Several years ago I offered a WWI Italian tunic on Ebay and got at least four different people asking me to sell early and telling me why it would be a good idea, because they would pay more than the auction would bring. It really po'd me and as a result, I won't sell to that country anymore.

                  Just a follow up .

It would appear I was a bit to hasty with my abuse and that it was a genuine mistake by the consignor who wanted to sell an WW2 M1 helmet not the pickle which he bought from a gun show for $600 ten years ago . His son took the wrong helmet to the ebay seller and when it was noticed obviously he wanted it back , the guy is in his 80's and without a computer . Luckily I vented my venom here and not towards the ebay seller who I was polite to . I was polite because there is nothing I could do and there is no point abusing people much better to vent my spleen here . Anyway I said to the seller I would give the old guy $650 for it which he accepted . So I apologies for accusing an ebayer for going behind my back . Rob

Great news and at that price still quite a bargain.
