    shoulder boards help needed

    got me some shoulder boards ,,

    as I am absolutely green I feel kind a funny ..

    can anybody identify them fore me ..?

    I know the rank but not the units

    and ,,,dos someone knows a good book,, I should buy to find out how to identify them correctly..

          These M1888 pattern boards with the large square cord were worn until 1903 when the cord style was replaced with flat cords.

          The blue underlay pair is for 8. Rheinisches Infanterie Regiment Nr. 70. Aftter 1912 the blue underlay was replaced with green underlay when the regiment changed corps. The regiment was formed in 1860 and garrisoned at Saarbrucken.

          Unfortunately it appears the white pair have their regimental insignia missing.

          I believe the best reference for shoulder insignia are; Herr's The German Infantry 1871-1914 and Somers The Imperial German Army in Field Grey.
