Unit Marked Pickelhaube Help

Picked this up not too long ago. Any thoughts on the markings? Looking to sell.

Congratulations on acquiring the helmet!

The markings are a nice bonus, and are correct for the Prussian front plate.

Infantry Regiment 24, 2nd Battalion was stationed at Neu-Ruppin.

If you want to get the front visor re-stitched, I'd recommend Brian Loree, the owner of the pickelhaubes.com website. He does excellent work.

I notice the "51 1/2" mark which should be the size. I didn't realize they made anything smaller than a size "53".

Remember that the abundance of food and mega-calories of today did not exist even 50 years ago. There was no such thing as a fat kid 100 years ago. Malnutrition and hunger was the normal state for most people. Germans, like most European nations often lived day to day and often went hungry. People in general were much smaller as they simply were not able to enjoy the food and health care that we enjoy today in the West. Even in WWII, the most common size for a steel helmet is 56. Tiny. Plus, what is the average age of a soldier in a war? 19 to 21. Old men send children to fight their wars.

OOHRAA Tony. I believe Americans and Canadians were much younger than that up to WWII, and were eager to join the fight.

I have questions about the markings also. Was this pre-war M1895 originally issued to Infantry Regiment 24 (J.R. 24) in 1904?

I believe the other date on the rear visor is 1913? Does that mean it was reissued? Same Unit? Different Unit? Reworked?

Poor "little willie" will be patched up soon and flying to California to nest for awhile. There were unforeseen complications with the liner and rear visor, however; Brian is a master at this. He sure as hell has a lot more patience than I.

Why would you want to restitch it or touch it in anyway its not going to effect its value or make it look better . I hope it doesn't get polished ! Rob
