    Austro-Hungarian M17 helmet

    Hi guys!

Got that one directly from the family. Leather chin-straps seem to be later, maybe Austria Bundesheer 1. Republic.

    Any comments welcome,

    kind regards, Peter

Looks like it started out brown then was painted black....or camouflage, then possibly cleaned ...what do you think having it in hand...also almost appears like it may have had a name inside the back skirt....or is that the lighting...maybe writing on the pads.....possibly some blood also? Very nice helmet and the way we all love to find them.

                    Hi!
I believe the same concerning the color. No name on the pad, only some kind of signs. Also no blood, only patches of dirt.
The helmet is untouched for sure and was still in use after WWI in the Austrian army (Bundesheer). I got it directly from the house of the former bearer's son, who was an officer in WWII.
Thanks for Your kind comment and best regards, Peter
