GARDE HELMET PLATE, NICKEL SILVER from FLEA MARKET...

Here're a few better shots of the nice nickel silver (I believe), Prussian "Garde" helmet plate I found at last weeks flea market. It has a Garde star which is applied separately and is affixed via flanges through the eagle. The insignia itself has really terrific detailing throughout, with some obvious verdigris to the reverse. It would appear that both threaded mounting screws have been trimmed back a bit, as only appx. 1/4 of an inch or so remain of each. Would I be correct in assuming that a plate in this configuration would be a private purchase type plate? It measures roughly 4/14 tall x 9 1/4 in length, if memory serves....Thanks in advance for any feedback.

    Hi Milton,

Very nice private purchase enlisted pattern pickelhaube frontplate. It was used on an Eigentums (private purchase) Helmet, and not an issued helmet

Can you share a side profile view of the degree of height of the star to show others here how it is different from the standard government issue "flat" surface order of the black eagle guard star for enlisted ranks? Your example is a more "swollen" pattern of star and has taller/higher profile details to it as compared to the standard issue e.m. rank star.

    Best Regards,

    Alan

I think the threaded mounting posts were cut short so the helmet plate would lie flat

Yep. As Alan said, private purchase with the pierced crown, and two-piece Garde strar. As PzWest noted, the Wappen were placed on the helmets and then once the nuts were secrure the posts were clipped, often very short.
