    M1910 Kratzchen

I'm in need of assistance deciphering some of the markings in this cap.

    Thanks to Tony's site I believe the marking of B.A.XIX. is - Armee-Korps (Leipzig), Second-Sachsisches Armee-Korps.

The 16 stamp is the date 1916, and the size stamp is 58.5.

I cannot find any reference to 188 R.R. Also, I'm unsure of what the marking is stamped below 188 R.R... maybe 15??I.?

The cap is exactly as I received it, with the one kokarden attached to the front. It appears to have been with this cap a very long time. Would this be correct?

Thanks in advance for your time and assistance.

    Chuck

                Hello.

Cockade is not original: it's an officer one and the cap is for a soldier.

The marking BA XIX is so as you say from the Saxon XIX Beckleidund Amt, 1916.

The other marking "188 RR" must be for the 188 rerserve rgt but the model of stamp is unknow for me in infantry. If someone can help...

                Best regards

Chuck, I wouldn't worry about the cockade being an officer one, and there being only one. Check this link out and forward to 37.12. Your cap seems as good as gold. As to the rest of your question, I've not a clue.

                      Chuck,

Beautiful cap! The unit marking is for the RIR.133, which was formed on August 2, 1914. It served for the entire war, starting out with the 24.Res.Division.

You can see the thread of the original cockade just above the officer's example. It looks like it might have had a prong backed state cockade. Is that a small hole? Can you tell by looking inside if it once had prongs pushed through?

Saxon reservist cockades are not that easy to find. Sew-on ones are even more scarce. If you need to see what they look like, let me know.

                      Chip

P.S. The other mark is "1.Batl."

Thanks all for your assistance and comments... they are much appreciated.

Chip - I knew you would nail it. Good eye! The State cockade appears to have been prong backed. I posted a close up picture of the front and back. I do not know what they look like and would love to see an original example.

                        Thank You,

                        Chuck

                          Chuck,

Since I don't see the stains from the prongs, I think you could go with either a sew-on or a prong-back one. Here are the examples that I have in my collection of insignia. In reverse order right to left, you have the sew-on, the standard prong-back, the reservist prong-back and a variation of the reservist prong-back. All can be used for either enlisted or NCO.
