If it is real someone did very well. I was not feeling it with this one however. -
it's real. if you look closely on the picture of the inside left there's an "R.V." maker stamp followed by a nearly invisible batch number.Comment

Like the others, I don't like the look of this one either. Surface has the look of cast iron as opposed to forged steel. Maker markings are way to light as well, even with a corroded surface. The other thing with these is that they all ring like a bell, even the copies. It's the tone of the ring which is important. And if you haven't heard a real one ringing, it's not a good way to judge its originality. Shape and gauge of the plate are critical. It has to fit over the shoulders of the helmet lugs correctly and to be absolutely certain of what you have, it must have maker markings. If your lucky enough to find one with original straps, pay close attention to the strap configuration and attachment detail.
There are plenty of good examples on both this and GHW forums to study so do plenty of homework and ask question before committing and remember that a good one will cost you a small fortune. If it's for sale online and cheap, chances are no one else wants it.
