Where to find some nice ww1 German visors

    Gentlemen,

I have an interest in ww1 German visor caps but I don't really know where to go looking to find any for sale other than say Weitze and some of the other larger dealers. Any tips on places to look for them and are there any recommended books on the subject?

I appreciate the assistance in advance. Matt

There is a UK -based website, Saxonia Militaria, that lists a number of visor caps, at reasonable prices, IMHO.
I would also try the website Great War Militaria, in the USA, and, perhaps, Der Rittmeister, another website, although he is expensive.
In Germany, besides Weitze, I believe Carsten Baldes also has some Imperial headgear, and really, many of the TR oriented dealers have the occasional Imperial headgear.
As to books, Schiffer published a boob titled "Schirmmutzen", about specifically cavalry peak caps. I believe it's rather mediocre, but worth getting if at a good price.
This is off the top of my head; I'll try to come up with some other suggestions when I get home.

      Bob,

I appreciate the input, I saw that book and was unsure of it. I was told that the 3 book set by Jurgen Kraus was really good. I am thinking about picking up his "The German Army in the first world war uniforms and equipment- 1914 to 1918" it looks to be a good book and maybe references some visor cap info.

I don't know much about ww1 caps but I love the colors of them and think its time to expand my visor cap collection a little bit. Matt

        Matt,
I forgot to mention the excellent website, The Kaiser's Bunker. It's full of great information on Imperial headgear, and the color charts for mutzen are especially valuable.
There are also a series of books by the U.S. author James Turinetti on Imperial uniforms and headgear; I believe you can find them on Amazon or Ebay, or just google his name.

          I like referencing Kaiser Bunker.
I plan on selling a very nice officers lid pretty soon, if interested drop a line and I'll send some photos. (shameless plug)

Vendors are horribly overpriced.... but sometimes, they have what we want.
