It's Saxon police I believe, and not Imperial era. It's Weimar era or later.

The gentlemen in the "Belts and Buckles" forum of the Wehrmacht Uniforms and Equipment section located above us will be able to help you out with certainty on the ID of your buckle.

      Best Regards,

      Alan

          Hello,

          IMO that's a fake buckle .

Box is a post war !

Roundel looks like a Fire police officers buckle from Weimarer era .

Also the solder fixing points are looking not good .

It's a reproduction. The keeper prongs are snipped with a wire cutter and the style (Steghülse für Schnalldorne) was not introduced until 1916.

I see that you managed to squeak $29 out of it as eBay seller "picwords".

thanks wwiczechlegion - you are right. even a fake's worth that much. that is, if it IS a fake; which, having owned it and held it - along with lots of other buckles over many years - I doubt. (obviously tho, if buyer disagrees then hey bingo back it comes.) but thanx for your and chip's opinions.

really, I'd have thought 2 thumbs-down in 230 views here is far from a slam-dunk. but ya never know.

Between the two threads it has a mixed review at best. I think the price obtained tells what the collector consensus is, at least unofficially. I don't see any attempt at deception. The pics in the auction were fine.
