1918 Messkit

Hello,
I recently picked this up at a gun shop. I don't know anything about imperial field gear, but thought it was interesting because of the maker. Inside was the cup and a WW1 US condiment tin. Has anyone else ever seen this maker?

This maker also made metal spiked helmets.

Interesting to know Dave. I assume by their name that they weren't making anything during the WW2 era.

Gebrüder Israel made a number of metal items for the imperial army including canteens and messkits. I have seen another steel messkit dated 1915. So far, I have not seen any enameled products made by them.

There were many Jewish owned manufacturers that had contracts with the German government to supply goods to the army.

This held true in the WWI era U.S. too. For instance, uniforms were supplied by the garment industry, which was predominately centered in the northeast at that time.

Thanks Chip. The same held true for a lot of the clothing factories that were once in many of the small towns down here in Alabama, many headed by families that came down from the Northeast in the early 1900s.

I liked the kit when i saw it, but not sure I'll keep it for long as I just can't keep it all!
