I just now took another look at the two close up images you added in #3, and the collar facing material appears to be closer to original than in the photo of #1. I was perhaps thrown off by the quite irregular machine stitching on the underside when it was re-sewn using the wrong thread.

So, I retract what I said about the material in my first comment, and I'll get my eyes examined.

I'm going with your first assessment. That collar facing does not look right. With the rest of the coat being in such nice shape, it has to make you wonder why anyone would replace it.
