The bavarian artillery used helmets with a spike until 1916, it must be the explanation.

The gray color metal taller spike was used on the Model 1915 Bavarian enlisted man pattern Dragoon helmet. It is NOT an officer's spike. The M95 & M15 Enlisted Man Pattern Dragoon Helmets had the rounded pearl design at the bottom of the spike, just as this gray metal spike has on it. Officer's spikes have the pearl and dart design. This spike has only the "pearl" design on it, and it is made of gray pewter color steel, making it an enlisted pattern spike.

The markings on the underside of the visor read: "F A R 44" which would mean
Field Artillery Regiment 44.

Field Artillery Regiments used the ball top spike.

As forum member timpe_be has previously said, Foot Artillery Regiments normally are marked "Fs A R" followed by the regiment number.

I know it's a little off the topic of helmets, but here are a couple pics of his blade souvenirs.

How come these started out as Argentine and then had the references removed? Did the Germans make these to sell to Argentina and then didn't, using them for themselves? - That's all I can figure.

Then the two bayos, both 1916 dated.

You should also swap the cockades, the reich cockade on the right side and the state cockade on the left

It's all been said already... Artillery with ball top and change the kokarden, then you have a very nice helmet!

Good choice by Adler 1, artillery haubes are, in my opinion rarer or less seen than spiked infantry haubes.

Great find! I remember working with some old WW1 vets in the 80's and seeing helmets like this on the shelf in their homes. Nice collection of WW1 things.
