Hi Bill,
Across the shoulder was a Bandolier und Kartuschkasten which was a belt in white painted leather and an ammunition pouch in black leather. The hook held the belt in place.
Did you know the Epauletten and Ulanka do not match? The Epauletten are for Garde-Ulanen-Regt. Nr.3 and the Ulanka is for Schleswig-Holsteinisches Ulanen-Regt. Nr.15. -

As I said, this is not my area at all, so I'm not surprised to find that the boards do not match the tunic except insofar as they are both yellow and silver in their designs!
