LEIB HUSAREN PELZMUETZE SKULL from FLEA MARKET...

Hello folks. This showed up at this weekends flea market, and I took a chance on it being a period piece as the detail looks really, really good. From all appearances, it looks like a German silver type finish which has oxidized to an almost brassy appearance...it's more apparent on the rear. It is completely un-marked, and has two flat prongs, each individually soldered onto the reverse. I can see no markings whatsoever. It measures approximately 3 1/2 inches wide at the longest point, and roughly 3 1/16 inches tall from the teeth to the top of the skull. The overall condition is excellent, and it IS convex as you can see, as to mount up to a helmet. Can anyone shed any light on whether I stumbled upon a good one or not? Many thanks in advance for any help. A few pix below...

Well, I typically take silence as a good sign, as usually if it's an obvious fake, the responses generally come quickly and in droves. If anyone can make a qualified opinion as to whether or not this piece is possibly period, I'd sure appreciate hearing from you! Thank you.

        Hello.

Sorry but for me it's a copy. Never seen prongs like this and it looks silvered bronze in place of german silver.

        Let's wait other opinions...

        Best regards

Thanks for your comments, however I believe the prongs on this one are similar in shape to the one example shown at the top of Berra's thread, albeit his are seemingly split as opposed to my example. Safe to assume there are several different types of mounting hardware on these? It would seem so from what I've seen so far. As for the color, it IS silver, just w/ heavy patina (like nicotine, etc). If you look at the reverse image, the silver coloration is more apparent.

The above posted skull is a copy. I have attached a photo of what I believe is the authentic version from which the fakes are copied. Note the deep three dimentional detail and the crispness of the teeth.

In the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king.

Duct tape can't fix stupid, but it can muffle the sound.
