    M1850 Zündnadelgewehr ammo pouches

Because of my growing interest in Prussian Zündnadelgewehre and their accessories, I have been on the hunt for pouches.

I discovered an interesting lot of these pouches from a gentleman who picked them up around 1962 from Bannerman's and kept them in his barn until recently. He had one on a table at a show a few months back, and after I bought it I asked what else he had and he had two more under his table. At some point he then said he had more in his barn at home and if I was patient he would dig them out one day. So, now 3 months later I received 4 more!!!

After having visited the Dreyse House museum in Sömmerda last winter and not seeing any in the museum, or at the Kassel Show, I figured these might be pretty tough to find.

They are dated between 1850 and 1872 and have various units markings. One pair are matched to the Westphalian Fuss Artillerie Regiment 7. The Fusilier issue ones (black leather trim)appear to be marked to guard units.

    Willi,

I agree with your assumption that these pouches are not that easy to find. Bannerman had tons of them (he must have cleaned Germany out!) and back when they were still in business, you could buy these pouches for almost nothing. Of course, back then, nobody wanted them. If Bannerman's could have hung on for another fifteen years, they would have made a mint on all of their German surplus.

I'm sure that if you put one of these on Ebay.de, it would fetch a nice price.

      Hi Chip,

Where do you think the pouches ended up? Scattered all over? This guy had alot of '74 and '88 pouches as well. I picked up a few to good units and a pair of the smaller NCO '88 pouches.

I heard a very interesting account of where the leftover Bannermans stock is today, from a person who claimed to have recently seen it. Maybe other members also are aware of this and will post more.

From what I heard there is a giant warehouse very well packed with lots of firearms and even more of everything else.....in or around NYC.

It is and has been tied up in a family probate type of dispute and hard to say when and how it will be settled.
