    Hello All , ive had this bayonet for some time . I am not well versed on ww1 bayonets . If anyone can provide information about it i would really appreciate it .

          John,

          You have an S98/05 aA bayonet for the Mauser rifle. It should have a date of manufacture on the back spine of the blade as well as a state marking such as a crowned W for Prussia. The markings on the crossguard indicate it was issued to an artillery Battery.

              You also have a rare leather scabbard, War time switched to all steel. Great one to own.

                Yes, your bayonet was made in 1908 for the Prussian Army. As William said, it is an un-molested "old model" bayonet that was later changed to the "new model" that had a steel scabbard, lower "ears" on the guard, and other minor changes such as adding a flashguard. Yours has escaped these later modifications and is in its original configuration.

                      If you peak behind the frog at the back side of scabbard near the top, there's a chance it has a mark the matches the mark on the crossguard.

                        Nothing there but it is marked here on top of scabbard hardware .
