    Rare schirmmutze

At least I believe that it's rare. Undress cap for a member of the Royal Bavarian
Leibgarde der Hartschiere, or Archer Life Guard, established in 1667, and consisting of a total of 107 all ranks. It, of course, ceased to exist in 1918.
Cap was made by Johann Zellner of Munich, capmaker to the Royal House of Wittelsbach.
    Comments appreciated.

Looks like I misspelled the maker's name!

      Another beautiful hat!
Is the piping made from velvet? looks that way.
Seems that the sweatband has come loose in the past and now has some extra stitches holding it on.
I love the white interiors of these Imperial caps.

Yes Ben, the piping is also velvet, per the uniform info in Volume I of "Das Deutsche Heer."
Cap is in close to mint condition, no mothing.

Wonderful Bob! I used to own this Pioneer Alter Art with velvet piping. I thought it was unique until I saw this cap of yours..

May I have permission to use your photos on the "other" forum?

Wow, Ben, that cap is fantastic! Yes, by all means, you can use the photos on the "other" forum, although I started a thread there yesterday.

              Nice hat.
The band didnt came loose, but is finished with the fine black stiching on the edge. The "repairs" are in fact the original stiching. Ive seen this on a couple of civil hats of the period and sometimes on austro-hungarian caps.

I brought this cap to the MAX Show, and had it looked over by reps from Hermann Historica, who agreed that it is 100% authentic.
Not much in the way of Imperial cloth headgear at the show, sadly.
