    Pickelhaube Opinions

    http://www.oakleafmilitaria.com/137imphel1.html

Was wanting to get some more experienced opinions, looks like the frontplate has been there for some time but the backing plate for the spike base seems its not for a round spike base? Or did that really not matter to some makers?

The inside base plate is certianly differant....where & what do the extensions of the plate go or do....does the Chin strap posts also mount inside (under the liner)?
Looks "new", but that is possible.....(the plate I'm talking)..... maybe because this is an earlier model with the parade "brush"..... Looks "text book" otherwise, and unless something else looks "bad", I'd just say it's a manurfacturer's variation giving the spike & brush added support....

As I recall correctly the reserve cross is Prussian and not Baden. It should read Fuerst instead of Koenig...

      Best regards,

I think Adler might be able to sort it out if it's good or put together

Peculiar is the least to say...
In picture 4 the trichter doesn't seem to fit well... but that's maybe an optical thing due to the angle the pic is taken. It's also not necessarily a red flag, just a thing to look at very carefully and then decide wether it really fits good or not. When it's not a proper fit, I would see it as put together, but again... check this out very carefully before making your decission.
The base plate for the spike is a reinforced model, no problem. On the other hand, it seems the little washers (that are normally between the base plate and the nuts) are missing. Those washers are normally used, certainly when the base plate has slotted holes. Of course it is possible that there have never been washers used with this helmet, so it's another thing to check carefully...
The reserve cross seems to be a problem... Normally when you have a plate wth text on the bandeau, there shouldn't be text on the cross. It's also possible there's text on the cross and no bandeau on the plate. Exeptionally you can find text on both, maybe they used old stock, but imo this was not done on an officer's haube... In this case the motto of the cross is wrong, it's indeed Prussian... So this might be a replacement cross?
It's also strange that this helmet is relatively cheap, compared whit the rest he's selling... So, pay really good attention when you want to buy this helmet...
Just my two cents of course...

I am with Karel. In addition, that cross is not the correct one for that plate.

Now for something completely different an officers helmet with the motto twice – I will have to say I arm wrestled this one out of Tony who found it originally.
