    Imperial frog markings

Hello. This frog came on a Weimar Police clamshell bayonet. It is nicely marked for 1915. It is also marked with what I think is 6 IR.. The marking does match the Police markings on the bayonet and scabbard. Wouldn't an Imperial marking have the number after the letters.

Not necessarily depending on state unit etc.

        Markings.

Most of my Imperial items are Prussian. I hadn't thought of other states being different

That's a typical Bavarian mark from the Bekleidungs Depot III. They used a code system to hide the identity of the manufacturer, a practice that was adopted in Third Reich times.

So, in this case, "149" is the manufacturer, "B.D.III" is the issuing entity and the "6.I.R." is the "6. Infanterie Regiment Kaiser Wilhelm, König von Preußen" garrisoned in Amberg.

P.S. So far, I know that "149" also made '08 Luger holsters and M09 cartridge pouches.

Thanks for the information on the markings. I may have to find a proper bayonet to add it to.

            All the best

              Kirby,

If it fits a clamshell (which I think are narrower than a 98/05 bayonet) then it may be for a 84/98nA. If you don't find a bayonet for it, I have one that would fit it perfectly!

              Best regards,
              Chip
