    Need opinions on Camo M-1917

I just picked this up. I could not find any stampings in the metal. I took some reaaly poor pictures of the ink stamps on the back of the liner. The only thing I can read is the 1917 date. Cannot discern the rest of the stampings. Tell me what you think and see.

    Thanks,
    Kevin

      Kevin,

I see what was once an excellent original, and complete, Bell-L 64 feldgrau helmet that someone tried to enhance with a post war camo paint job.

Sorry, from what I see in your photos the camo is post war applied. Better pictures might change my mind, but I doubt it.

        Chuck,
Thanks for your comments. I have checked a couple of books and a number of sites and cannot find a camo pattern like the one on this helmet. I posted on this same thread on the War Relics forum and am receiving the same feedback.

        Thanks,
        Kevin

No problem Kevin. Baer's book is a good one to reference, but it mostly takes many years of experience. Continue to use these forums if in doubt... it'll save you some heartburn. There are many patterns of WWI applied camo. The paint is wrong on yours, as well as the overall wear.

Unfortunately, I cannot make out the name of the manufacturer of the leather liner, but I can see that it was made in Offenbach a.M. (am Main). Offenbach (just across the river from Frankfurt) was a major hub of the leather industry in Germany and there were dozens of manufacturing companies located there.
