Did this occur often? The NCO's preference for the regular enlisted field Kratchen over the brim version. Ive seen a few photos like this some field photos.

N.C.O.s were normally issued Feldmützen. As far as I know, visored caps were only worn by Unteroffiziere mit Portepee before 1915, as they were allowed to wear an officer's cap. I don't think that general use of visored caps started until after the new uniform regulations of September 1915.
