"better" than a German M16, as mentioned, it's an all original Austrian M17. the chinstraps are original. all's well

Ahh even better than a German issued,, nice. Well it was not cheap but as it seems to be a nice piece compared to others I have seen online I just had to take a chance.

I will pick it up tomorrow together with a coat and some other smalls

I'll update with some more and better pictures tomorrow.

All the best and thanks for all the help!

                    !

                    Ciao Berra.
                    Austrian WW1 helmet is rare.
The color is only in brown.
                    Look in my collection.

                          I must agree with Marco.
All the parts look wartime to me, but the color is very odd.
Austrian helmet were painted in brown: shade could be a bit different from a maker to another, but was always brown!
Probably this helmet was completed and used post WW1 by one of the mentioned countries.

OK... who is the maker of this helmet? What does the lot/production number tell us? Lastly, what does the ink stamp on the backside of the liner finger mean? The answer to these questions will ID this helmet.

Here is Greg W reply from walhalla forum

Bjorn, that is most certainly an Austrian M17, and a very nice one at that.  Manufactured by Adolf Westen with steel rolled at the Bruder Lapp steel works (according to Pierpaolo Cocianni).  Austrian helmets in field grey are not common, but they are certainly not unkown.  Great find, congratulations.

                              Regards,
                              Greg W
