Best repro liner...and should I bother?

    Questions:

    1. Having just bought a very nice M16 shell at a reasonable price, should I bother to fit a repro liner (bearing in mind you won't see it!) and chin strap to complete it?

    2. If so, which is the best quality liner as there are many for sale?

    3. Or, should I track down an original and fit it?

    4. Leave as is and wait for a complete helmet? (my preferred choice I think)

The helmet just looks a bit sad with three holes where the pins should be!

    Many thanks,

    John

hello,if y where you,y schould look for a compleet, and look perhaps if you can find a original that you can put in,because when you give money for a fake ,it is than a helmet whit fake liner ,and thats not good(for my)and good original liner you can find whit what luck,,but thats my idea,

Hello John, unless your're going to use it for reenacting my advice is to keep it as found.

I agree leave it as found because if you add repro or even original parts it becomes a messed with original, but that's just my opinion. Always best to leave things as they are

A shell helmet, depending on how nice it is, is still a nice collectible item. But if you put in a repro liner, then you've mess with it to a point where, in my opinion, its history has been damaged possibly beyond repair. I would never buy a helmet with any reproduction parts in it, even as just a shell, because you don't know how much of it was ruined by messing with it.

don't waste your money. wait for an original lined helmet. i wouldn't wear an original shell for re-enactment either.

I know its tempting but leave be, you'll never forgive yourself. A chinstrap on a 16 is different they were always falling off but no liner mate.

Thank you for your observations fellas!

I will definitely not now stick a repro liner into it, but what if the right size original turns up!? I realise that these may be hard to come across, but an original liner by itself isn't much to look at on your shelf, so why not marry them up?
