They might be from the imperial era. The width is more typical of the prewar officer board. So my guess is that they are a Prussian Foot Artillery Leutnant boards. A better look at the numbers might determine if it is from the imperial or some later era. It appears that there are extra holes in the back, so the numbers may have been added later.

Typically, the officer's boards with these horizontal stains are unissued ones that were tied together in pairs for many years. The stain is from the tie string. These are often used to make-up more interesting examples by adding numbers and devices. It is apparent, that this pair was never worn from the lack of a button impression and the closed nature of the button holes.

I would say this pair is rather historically uninteresting and not worth much as collector's pieces.

Thanks for the input, so NOS left overs from WW1, a depot survivor = unissued! Not a problem!
I agree the 8 was probably added and there are holes from another prior cypher insignia (or perhaps 2 numbers?)
Good observation! Nevertheless I'm happy with it! Paid only $30 incl. postage for the set!

          Prussian Infantry leitnant boards

These are Prussian Infantry Leitnant Boards,(white thread through the boards) I agree with Chip it seems they have been in storage for a very long time and are unissued . I also think these may be mid to late war manufacture as most were sewn in prior to that ! Like armys everywhere at that time the officer corps where predominatley from the upper end of society and therefore most had tailored uniforms . The fact that this pair are slip ons could mean state manufacture for general issue, But of course not neccesarily the case.
