    Bavarian Artillery Pickelhaube

    Hello everyone,

I wanted to share some photos of our Bavarian Artillery Pickelhaube and was thinking if someone could help identifying the makers logo: I can ready "Korn, Kläger Neu-Ulm"? I´m sure the specialists will know straight away.

    Thanks for your time!

    Hi Klaus,

Looks like the viewer's left underside of the rear visor shows this to be a 23rd Jaeger Reg't helmet, which would mean that this was once an infantry helmet. I can't quite make out what the markings are on the viewer's right underside of the rear visor. Can you show closer images of the markings on the right side?

    All the Best,

    Alan

      Hello Alan

      Many thanks for your help.
Looks like "23.J.R." and "II.E.Batl." to me.

Does the name of the maker sound familiar to you?

          Hello Klaus,

I cannot find the maker of your helmet on "Colonel J's" website: http://www.pickelhauben.net/articles/Helmet_Makers.htm

There was a different helmet maker in Neu Ulm who Joe lists on his website: Hans Romer.

Hopefully someone else will jump in with an ID on this other Neu Ulm helmet maker of yours.

          Best Regards,

          Alan

The company is "Kern, Kläger & Cie - Neu Ulm". They made quite a few things for the imperial army including, breadbags, bayonet frogs, cartridge pouches, backpacks, map cases, holsters and belt buckle tabs. I have records of them making items from 1915-1918. They may have made things earlier, but I have not seen anything marked with a date before 1915.

This is an infantry helmet that someone just switched the removable top on. Put a spike on it and it would be back to it's original configuration.

                Many thanks to everyone!
Thanks for the makers name, Chip!

I also believe this was issued as an Infantry helmet but received an Artillery spike period time IMO. The patina is matching nicely.

                Thanks!
