    WWI German Officer Buckle

Wondering any info on this German WWI or earlier officer 2 piece buckle, would fit a 2" wide belt. What would be the value, never saw one before. Came out of an estate.

I've seen a few of these before over many decades, including one on what seemed to be the original belt..so they are not common IMO. I do not believe, however, that they are German military....for a number of reasons, but again that is my opinion. I think that these are another example of the many dozens or perhaps hundreds of types of items that were re-worked from shell casings and belt buckle roundels to be sold post WWI....often called "trench art" or POW made....but in fact not so much.

Hopefully others can tell you more, but my 2 cents are in case no one does.

I tend to agree that it is a souvenir buckle. I think I have seen this style on one of those souvenir button/badge belts.

          Hi,

I agree with phild & Chip. It's a neat buckle, but it falls in the "trench art" category, and is not German military issue.

          All the Best,

          Alan
