    Uncnown Belt Buckle

    Hello all,

    i hope you can help me to find anything on this belt buckle. I found it in a barn by an friend of me.

    What is it and how old is it?

    I have clean it with water.

    It looks like a Feuerwehr/Fire department buckle for non-officer/enlisted personnel.

    I checked Reid's German Belt Buckles book; the Feuerwehr buckles are on page 77 (this from a reference book we use here in the US).

    Nice find. Is the inset (helmet and axes) attached/separate, or stamped?

        Im going to take a stab at this question....i'd say it is pre ww1,or there abouts ,but even with its age, it is not worth much . Some firemen collect fire memorabilia, but only special presentation fire department items seem to be desirable to military collectors. As important as fire departments were, fire dept trappings just don't seem to have much demand. If i were you , I would keep it if it was cheap, and just sock it back for the future9if you already have purchased it),maybe demand will change someday.
