Well worn, beat up and shot up, but legit. The condition of all liner pads surely doesn't match the condition of the rest of the helmet though.

Hey dude that is a rare Bell L ...these are like hens teeth to find, even in this condition. I hope you buy it, it doesnt matter about the coloring as to if it is a camo or not, the makers mark bell, and the capitol L is what makes this helmet desirable. I happen to also have one as captured...if you wanna see it let me know and ill try and dig it out for you. Very nice ! Best scoop -la that one asap. Mud daubere get in the lug holes and build nests, thats what the dirt is..a singn it has been in a barn garage or attic where insects have had access.

agreed. there is a shot right through the metal liner band. perhaps the leather could have been replaced and reissued... i don't know.

bell L maker helmet are not so rare. i have several of them and see them selling from time to time. a rare maker would be an SH, or rarer than that, a KM. the dirt/twigs in the air vents was usually done by soldiers to keep the wind out. i don't blame them

Bell-L M18's aren't that easy. Chuck has em all.
Nice battle lid, no way those pads would stay like that if it was on a noggin.

Tell the seller it's not Camo anything. That is simply wear tear and degrading effects of time. If he's trying to get some extra cash for camo don't fall for it.

One of the saddest ploys I see in WWI helmets almost always peddled by WWII collectors.
