Check out the new paint runs in one of the last photos.

Is that seller crazy? Even if it weren't obviously new paint, which it is, how could the paint runs on the inside of the helmet possibly exist? There's no way that could get in there when the helmet was intact, which it would have been if it was originally camo painted.

Even more obvious is that the paint goes over the jagged damage in the rear skirt, so it was obviously painted after the damage to the skirt.

        Ok

I think its probably original although varnished post-war. I think it is varnish or shellack inside the shell, not paint. If fake, somebody capable of executing this level of fakery would not have let paint dribble inside the shell. The area around the jagged section looks mostly like rust to me, not paint.

I'm not 100% sure of course. The skull looks like a fantasy addition and the green paint looks slightly off - not regulation. Still, to me this piece seems more likely to be basically authentic rather than fake.

        Any other contraians?

Think the helmet probably was a camo touched up by the US Vet with Halloween on his mind. imo
Long time ago he straightened out the crown shirt damage breaking off the rolled rim and cleaned up the rough edges. Sat in an outhouse/barn rusting the outer shell later wiped it with shellac.

Could this one have been a grave marker ?
