    Brass Liner pins?

Did any German Companies make Liner pins for the M17/M18 Helmets?

I have two brass pins that are convincing as originals but I currently consider them repros.

I am pretty sure that brass would not have been used that late for liner pins, the reason that the M1915 helmets had steel fittings was to conserve brass for munitions, as it was in very short supply, and it would have been impossible for a German company to obtain brass to make something as unimportant as liner pins that late in the war.

I know that is the conventional visdom but sometimes WWI defied conventional visdom. If they are not original they would have to be some sort of custom made jobs. And it seems brass is a little too brittle to make for good liner pins.

Ahh! I know! They must be Navel issue!!??

          That must be right!!!

While it is true that WWI defied conventional wisdom, there was a shortage of brass in Germany, and even though helmet liner rivets were needed, it would have been impossible for a manufacturer to get brass to make them, when steel would work as well. And if they had brass on hand, they would not use a more expensive metal to do the job of a cheaper one, this is the same reason that a bayonet frog with brass rivets is not a war time Grman production.
