Its a known fake. Regt 1 and 2 caps are often faked. I personally believe this to be one of them. Theres a guy on eBay.de that sells one every few months and usually makes out pretty good. Don't know where he gets them but the fuzzy piping and liner gives them away. Wasn't this one on Herr Weitze a couple weeks back?

Thanks Gebirgsjäger for your input! I like this cap but my gut feeling has been that it is a fake, a convincing one at that. This is not the one from Weitze, I purchased the cap from Ebay.de for way too much and I got burnt. Thats ok, I like learning and it was my first Schirmmütze purchase. The TK I added after receiving the cap. I thought the piping was ok, a little fuzzy but not as much as the repro ones I see. The Ebay seller goes by two names I am pretty sure and I would like to call him out on it. The seller goes by sammler-777 or waraeg and YES he does quit well from looking at his history and feedback. Thanks again!

This piece of $hit list his caps as simply "Schirmmütze" and I guess he feels his conscience is clear. Hope he rots in hell in the end for his treatment of others in life for his own personal gain.
We all pay our dues eventually and I guess that was the my price of admission to the Hussar club : )

Exterior of the cap looks pretty good, but the interior looks far too pristine for a roughly 100 year old cap.
Regarding Imperial caps, don't collectors also have to beware of copies made in the 20's & 30's for " alte kameraden"? I've seen a number of examples, especially made by Pekuro.

I am not convinced these are fakes. I just do not believe they are Imperial made, probably made in the 30s, or even the 60s. But not meant to be a fake. Just not period.
A friend of mine has a very nice collection of post-1919 Schirmmütze for Imperial Regiments made for alte Kameraden organizations. Not made as fakes, made to worn. The problem is, now they are being sold as the owners have long gone to reuite with their Kameraden.

I'm not sure if calling it a FAKE is even the right word. It certainly is not one of those common repros and like I said I have my doubts about it being original, like being originally from 1900-1910. In my opinion it falls in a "gray area" catagory, too good to be a fake but not good enough to be real. To me the piping looks like some originals I have seen, it is a tad fuzzy but not nearly as bad as some "fakes" I have seen. I will just hang on to it for now and enjoy it or wonder about it.
Its my fault really if I got burnt on this because I jumped on a busy bid pool at the last minute without really looking carefully. Just don't want to get burnt again!!
Ok so about the seller, be careful with this guy. He gives a very "safe" description of the item, possibly clearing himself from misrepresenting the item, only stated the obvious like, type of hat and colors of the hat. The seller also offers a "no return" policy, which I don't like at all. One other thing that really pissed me off was that after I had won the item I decided to tell him I wasn't sure about this and wanted to get out of it. Two days pass and he finally gets back to me claiming not to speak english all the sudden and that he had already shipped it. So that was total BS because we had talked before thru emails many times in ENGLISH!!!!

I recall The Collectors Guild had an infantry officer's dunkelblau cap for sale a few months ago, a beautiful Pekuro, and they stated in the description that it was a postwar cap, made for veterans.
Saxonia Militaria also has a couple of caps that they fully disclose are reproductions, and are priced accordingly.
Also, the website of French dealer Bertrand Malvaux has a beautiful officer's cap for Dragoon Regt. no.10, priced as an original, but appears to me to be at the very least, a 1920's-30's veteran's cap.
