They also scrapped one of the big rail guns until somebody woke up and kept the barrel which is the only thing left on display. I was also told they scrapped quite a few captured German armoured vehicles that were captured after WW2 including panzer 1 and a Puma. Sadly all they have left are a few anti tank guns, anti aircraft guns and howitzers.

                      Really?

I thought they had a couple of fairly interesting aircraft as well, eg the Me109; Komet and WW1 German aircarft on display.

Not to mention the A7V in the Queensland Museum; the kubelwagen currently on display in the 1941 'Siege of Tobruk' display at AWM, as well as the assorted field howitzers on display in such obscure places as Oakey (near the Army Aviation Museum) and in front of Queen Victorias statue in Queens Park, Brisbane.

You see a lot of WWI Shells turned into Lights over here.

True about the A7V...I thought of that just as I posted on this thread. As for the aircraft in the AWM. My apologies, I am not an aircraft guy and my limited field of thinking did not take those into account as well as the V1 and V2 rockets..one at the AWM and the other near Melbourne.

They burnt most the WW1 aircrafts to make room...

The barrel was separated anyway from the carrier - the latter one was used to house an aussie gun for costal defence in WWII.
After 1945 they scrapped it, and the barrel survived on its own.
