    What about this uncommon Hessian buckle

    Hi.

    Can anyone provide any information on this little buckle ? 55 / 35 mm

    The keeper looks like it was taken from a reproduction imperial Russian buckle. It was attached rather poorly. The buckle surface around the crown looks totally abused, whereas the crown itself is relatively unscathed.

      could it be a buckle from before the 1866 war with Austria ?

      There are some quite unusual configerations on those early ones,

          Well, it hardly looks like the same buckle in this second attempt. It actually looks much better. Still, the back has problems. I never said it was a bad piece, only pointing out the problems.

            In PATZWALL (Deutsche Koppelschlösser 1800-1945), P. 28, I found :

            Hannover buckle, before 1866, heavy brass design with a soldered connection on the rear side...


            It is the same one except dimensions.
