WWI 98/05 leather frog original or fake

    Hi guys,

Please write me your opinions that this 98/05 leather frog with marker stamp is an original or a porstwar fake.

    Thanks in advance!

    Best regards,
    Gabor

I believe these frogs marked "BAM 9 30" were once in the possession of the Bavarian Army Museum (same initials in German). The "9 30" being the month and year they were accessioned. They were either liberated in WWII (many things were taken from the museum) or were de-accessioned at some point. I have one in my collection too, which I have always thought was OK.

            Are you sure Chip
Didn't the Bavarians favor black leather?
One of these was on ebay.de a while back. I remember the 9 30, maybe its the same one?
I dismissed at the time as not W1. Didn't like the date stamp or the rivets used together with it being smooth side out with clean cut edges.
Could be wrong I,ve been stung myself, twice in the last 18months with frogs from Europe.

Well, this one is dated 1914 and it was never issued, so no surprise that it is brown. If this were a frog meant to deceive, I don't think it would have the extra, obviously non-WWI markings on it. It doesn't make sense to me. I thought I had a record of when I bought mine, but no soap. I believe it was in the '80s or '90s.

Until someone can show me a reason it is bad, I'm sticking with it.

A nice looking frog . I have this 1939 Rural Police belt from the same company. It doesn't look like they changed their trademark very much. I have been told the orange colored stitching is common with the company. I bid on a WWII frog with the same stitching. Kirby

                  Hi Kirby,

                  Thanks for your belt post.
It's a very good news that this marker was an original war time ( WWI -WWII ) manufacturer.

                  Best regards,
                  Gabor

Anything marked BAM is a RAD marking to me. This marking was applied during WW2.

What do the letters stand for then?

Doesnt matter, never seen anything but a RAD unit or no unit on anything marked BAM. No Army, would love to see one.

                          Rick1,

So, I guess you are saying that this is a WWI frog with a WWII marking and that these frogs were reissued to the RAD?

I think it is fine, totally original.

Correct Chip! That is my guess.
Very nice frog by the way.
